The 15th edition of the men’s Big Bash League (BBL|15) is set to deliver another summer of non-stop cricket, featuring blockbuster clashes, star overseas players and widespread broadcast coverage across Australia.


When Does BBL|15 Start?

BBL|15 gets underway on Sunday, December 14, marking a historic first as the season opener follows the Weber WBBL Final the very next day.

The tournament will once again begin at Optus Stadium, where Perth Scorchers host the Sydney Sixers in a highly anticipated opening match. The clash between the league’s two most successful franchises will start at 4:15pm local time (7:15pm AEDT).


Star Players in the Opening Week

Some of the world’s biggest T20 stars will feature across the opening days of the tournament:

  • Babar Azam will represent the Sydney Sixers in the season opener

  • Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi will face off when Melbourne Renegades host Brisbane Heat in Geelong on Monday night

  • Hobart Hurricanes begin their title defence at home against Sydney Thunder on Tuesday night at Ninja Stadium


Tournament Format and Schedule

As in the previous two seasons, each team will play 10 matches during a 40-game regular season, running from December 14 to January 18.

Finals Schedule

  • Qualifier: January 20 (Top two teams)

  • Knockout: January 21 (Third vs fourth)

  • Challenger: January 23

  • Final: January 25

The Qualifier winner advances directly to the Final, while the loser gets a second chance in the Challenger.


Key Matches and Blockbuster Fixtures

  • Melbourne derby: Stars vs Renegades at the MCG on January 4, with the return clash at Marvel Stadium on January 10

  • Boxing Day special: Sixers vs Stars at the SCG following Day 1 of the fourth Ashes Test, plus Scorchers vs Hurricanes in Perth later that night

  • New Year’s Eve: Strikers vs Heat at Adelaide Oval

  • New Year’s Day double-header:

    • Renegades vs Sixers at Marvel Stadium (4:00pm AEDT)

    • Hurricanes vs Scorchers in Hobart later that evening
